FREEDOM IS NEVER FREE

July 4, 1776, 56 courageous men wrote their names down on a piece of paper that would become known as
the “Declaration of Independence.” It marked the birth of America as an independent nation.

But it’s one thing to proclaim freedom. It’s quite another to obtain and keep it. That freedom had to be
purchased with the blood of men and women. First, it’s proclaimed; then purchased; then maintained.

Just as our freedom as a nation had to be purchased with blood, so our spiritual freedom was also bought
with blood. Jesus proclaimed freedom when He stood and read from the prophet Isaiah in Luke 4:18-19

18 “The Spirit of the Lord is one me, because He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim Freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to
release the oppressed,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” (NIV)

But He not only proclaimed freedom, He purchased it by give the ultimate sacrifice with the shedding of His
blood. The only thing left is for you and me to choose to accept the freedom He purchased.

What’s amazing to me is for someone to say they would rather be a prisoner, stay blind and oppressed.

Doesn’t make sense to me.

That’s my view of things.
