An Excuse for Being Born

He was returning home from his first day at school. The teacher had asked the students to bring copies of their birth certificates so they could be sure of accurate records. But “certificate” was a pretty big word for him to deal with, although he had the right idea. Bounding into the house with his important message, he promptly called out, “Mom, for school tomorrow I have to take my excuse for being born.”

That’s an interesting way to put it– an excuse for being born. Everyone should have one, don’t you think? So, what’s your excuse? Unless we have purpose in life, we miss the challenge and joy of living. Anyone’s life can be noble, free, and useful; or, it can be wasted and unsuccessful. It all depends upon our choices. We can aim for the moon, or hit the mound of dirt in front of us.

It doesn’t take a person very long when he considers the universe or even his own physical body to know that God has a plan and order to life. Nothing demonstrates the reality of our Creator’s skillful planning more. God told Jeremiah the prophet, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:11, NIV).

God’s design for your life includes both hope and success. Why? Because He wants to make you like Himself, and by various methods He attempts to shape your life. But understand, He will not extend Himself beyond our free will. You and I are the only ones who can really hinder Him. He will never force His plans upon you. The choice is ours to make!

It’s amazing how we want to “pass the buck.” As long as we can make someone else responsible then we don’t have to deal with reality. Everything depends upon that decision. It may seem to be an insignificant, but looks can be deceiving. The enemy of your soul wants you to believe it’s not important. However, where we will spend eternity depends on this one thing: what will you do with Jesus? Will you allow Him to be Lord of your life?

That’s my view of things.
